In: Annales du Muséum d'histoire natuelle de Nice, Tome XI, 1996. - Very rare first issue of the first edition, with all the plates handcoloured. Only 50 copies of this issue were produced, followed by 230 more copies with mostly chromolithographed plates (cf. the extensive study by Trimbach). The plates were drawn by Barla, lithographed by Vt. Fossat and C. Vivaldi and printed by P. Davin in Nice and then finely handcouloured by the Italian colorist Guiseppe V. Calabresi. After publication of the first 50, handcoloured copies, the plates were chromolithographed by Carlin frères in Nice, with the exeption of plate 48 (in all copies I know it is handcoloured). Some copies exist as mixed issues with hand-coloured and chromolithographed plates. Plates 46-48 were produced for colouring in a greater number by Davin. The text is printed on heavy paper. Good condition, the paper of plates a bit darkened. Fore-title and verso of last plate browned, due to the bad quality of the inner endpapers. Verso of last plate soiled. Nice contemporary red quarter-leather binding with gilt title, rubbed, hinges slightly splitting. Oblong-Folio. 26 x 35,5 cm
